ADAB – Association of Development Agencies in Bangladesh

Message From the

Chairperson

Dear Esteemed Members of ADAB and Development Partners,

With great honour and a deep sense of responsibility, I extend my warmest greetings to all ADAB members, stakeholders, and friends in the development community. As the elected Chairperson of ADAB, I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for the trust placed in me to serve this vibrant and vital network at a time when Bangladesh—and the world—stands at a critical juncture of transformation.

Since its inception in the aftermath of Bangladesh’s independence, ADAB has served as the oldest and largest umbrella organization of NGOs, uniting grassroots and national-level organizations under one collective vision. With a membership now exceeding 1,080 NGOs, our strength lies in unity, diversity, and shared commitment to a just, inclusive, and empowered society.

Mr. Anwar Hossain

Mr. Anwar Hossain

Chairperson, ADAB

In recent years, ADAB has deepened its reach by establishing District Committees in 61 out of 64 districts across the country. These committees are instrumental in strengthening coordination among member organizations and local government institutions at the district, upazila, and union levels. They represent our unwavering commitment to decentralised governance and participatory development.

Today, Bangladesh is navigating complex challenges and opportunities—from economic recovery and climate resilience to digital inclusion and social equity. In this evolving context, the role of civil society, especially NGOs, has become more vital than ever. ADAB continues to champion policy advocacy, amplify the voice of NGOs, and enhance collaboration with the government and development partners to create an enabling environment where no one is left behind.

It is important to emphasize that ADAB does not implement projects directly but works through its member organizations, who are the driving force and heart of the network. Together, we have a proud legacy of innovation in poverty reduction, health, education, women’s empowerment, human rights, and social justice. The pioneering efforts of our member NGOs, particularly in reaching marginalized communities, have long been recognized by both national and international partners, and continue to align with the global ambition of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As Chairperson, I reaffirm my commitment to inclusive leadership, transparency, and collaboration. I extend sincere thanks to the dedicated team at ADAB, including our Executive Committee, the Director, and all staff members, whose tireless efforts have made ADAB a dynamic and visible force within the development ecosystem.

To all our member organizations, thank you for your continued ownership, time, and commitment. Your passion and perseverance are what make ADAB a living network, not just of institutions, but of purpose and progress.

Together, let us chart a future where civil society thrives, partnerships flourish, and every citizen, regardless of status, can access the opportunities and dignity they deserve.

With warm regards and solidarity,

Anwar Hossain
Chairperson, ADAB
